There is this one huge, very nice house in my neighborhood with these weird covers over all its windows. I call them covers because I have no idea what else to call them.
You cant see any of the window, in each spot where the window should be there is a big solid gray rectangle.
From the street, each one looks like a piece of tough gray fabric stretched over a rectangular frame. One big arced window above the front door has the cover inside it rather than outside however.

I want to buy a window air conditioning unit. The problem is that all of them are made for windows that close downward, so that they block out the air from the outside and hold them in place. Every window in my house opens left to right rather than down and up. Can you install them sideways in that type of window? How do they stay in place?
