So, a luxury deck or patio is out of your price range. But you are already anticipating the upcoming backyard BBQ season. What to do? Go low tech, of course!
The first step to transforming your backyard is to create a stable surface for dancing & general mingling. A fun & funky was to achieve this is to get your hands on a piece of plywood at least a 1/2″ thick. It can sometimes be ratty looking as long as it’s solid.
Now for the fun part… If you plan on reusing it, head to the hardware store & pick up some indoor/outdoor carpet. It is cheap & comes in a variety of colors. Less durable but more memorable is fake “fun fur” at the fabric store. In either case, make certain that the material is about 4″ wider & longer than the plywood.
Now lay out the fabric the good side down. Place the plywood on top, centering it on the material. Whip out a staple gun then staple one long side. Go around to the other side & tug on the material firmly to get rid of any loose spots.
Staple in the middle of this side to keep the fabric in place, then continue stapling. Finish by stapling the short ends, paying extra attention to the corners. Think wrapping a package. It can look bad . . . → Read More: Create A Fun & Easy Instant Patio

Those doors are heavier due to the dual pane glass, but most of the aluminum units did not use stainless steel rollers. There is more. The rollers get rusty after a while, & start to bind.
To replace the rollers, you must get rid of the sliding panel from the opening. Do you follow? The fixed panel must be removed in order for the sliding panel to come out, in most cases. FIgure out whether or not your fixed panel has to come out as well. If the slider is on the inside track & the fixed panel is on the outside track, you’ll have to take out both panels, because the slider will only come out from the outside. There is a lip on the bottom of the track inside your house, that keeps water from coming in. However – that lip is also too high to lift the sliding panel up & over. Therefore, you’ll have to get rid of the fixed panel first, then lift & swing out the slider from outside. If you’re one of the few who have a slider on the outside track, then you can lift your slider out without having to get rid of the fixed panel.
